Vivint™, the largest home automation services company in North America, is using smart technology to save lives as the winter season approaches.
The Vivint home automation solution not only provides state-of-the-art security protection, but it also safeguards families from fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), carbon monoxide poisoning is responsible for approximately 15,000 emergency department visits and nearly 500 deaths annually in the United States. The CDC also reports that over 53% of carbon monoxide exposures occur between the months of November and February.
“Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States,” said Jim Nye, vice president of product development. “Vivint sensors are designed to detect the smallest concentrations of carbon monoxide, ensuring families and homes are safe.”
Janice Flantz, of Portage, Ind., credits Vivint for saving her family’s life.
“We were all asleep and our carbon monoxide detector went off,” Flantz said. “The alarm woke my daughter and she woke us up. When Vivint could not reach us by phone they activated 911 and called our emergency contacts. The levels in our house were high, but thanks to Vivint, we were safe.”
The fire department discovered that the carbon monoxide was coming from a self-cleaning option on the oven that wasn’t venting properly, leaving the carbon monoxide to seep into the house.
“I didn’t sleep the rest of the night because I was frazzled,” Flantz said. “Going forward, I will sleep a lot better knowing that Vivint will quickly respond if anything happens.”
In addition to its fire and carbon monoxide sensors, Vivint offers a host of home automation features, including live video feeds of a home that can be viewed from a smartphone or computer. Vivint’s two-way voice feature also allows its central monitoring station operators to listen and talk to homeowners when a signal is received, ensuring that the proper emergency response personnel are dispatched as soon as possible.
With a one-time activation fee, plus a monthly monitoring charge, Vivint’s home automation solution provides simple, affordable home management. The Vivint system can manage thermostats, remotely control locks, alarms, motion detectors, lighting features, and small appliances.Customers may also add or subtract products to create a unique system that meets the needs of their homes, families, and lives.
