John Ene Okon is Dead – Ex–Nigerian Footballer

Former Nigerian international,Etim Esin just called to inform me now about the death of his teammate at the national team, Nigeria Super Eagles, John Ene Okon.

The fearless midfielder was said to have passed away today in Calabar.

Unfortunately,he died exactly on his birthday date. He was born on March 15 and died same day.

He will be 47 year today!!!

A member of 1987 FIFA U-20 and former national team mercurial midfielder.

It has been Confirmed that one of Nigeria’s finest midfielders of all time,ENE JOHN OKON has passed on. Regarded by some as Muda Lawal’s successor, John Okon played for Nigeria at the U-20 Fifa World Cup finals in Chile in 1987 and the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Senegal in 1992.

At Club level, he played for Calabar Rovers, BCC Lions and other top sides within and outside Nigeria. – Friend

Tribute to late John Ene Okon

Do you know that late John Ene Okon scored Nigeria’s first goal at the world youth championship hosted by Chile in 1987.

Okon netted the first goal in the 4th minute in a 2-2 draw with Canada in a group B game played at the Estadio Municipal Concepcion,Adeolu Adekola netted the second goal.
