Global online classifieds platform OLX, among the most used online

platforms in the world, today announced that it received the GSF “Mobile

Appies” award for Best Classifieds App in India. The award was

determined by a panel of industry experts as well as public voting.

As population totals and Internet traffic rise in markets like India,

the use of apps to connect to the web has experienced particularly high

growth. India is among the largest, developing markets and is poised for

continued growth in app use, leaving OLX well positioned for its own

growth in that country and globally. Since its founding in 2006, OLX has

become one of the most visited online platforms in the world, with more

than 200

million active users generating over 14 billion page views each month in

over 40 countries and 50 languages. This rapid growth has been

fueled by OLX’s early investment in its mobile offering and by swift

mobile adoption in India and other emerging markets.

Across the globe, OLX’s mobile app – which is highly rated in the iTunes

and Google Play app stores – has been downloaded more than 35 million

times and ranks as the #1 or #2 e-commerce app in both stores in many

markets. India is a particularly important, mobile-first market for OLX,

with 70 percent of its active users in the country connecting via mobile

devices. A January 2015 report from Morgan Stanley, which called OLX the

“leading online classifieds platform” in India, noted that the OLX app

is well-tailored to the country’s mobile-focused consumers, providing a

best-in-class user experience.

“It’s exciting and validating to be recognized for OLX’s mobile

offering, which has been a key priority for the company since the moment

we launched,” said Alec Oxenford, OLX founder and global brand

ambassador. “This award is a fantastic testament to our team’s efforts

and the significant, rapid growth we’ve experienced in India, a market

which continues to be fundamental to our global strategy. Our app allows

tens of millions of Indian consumers to use OLX to connect daily and buy

and sell used goods, creating a thriving marketplace that has been

recognized as the most vibrant in the country.”

OLX continues to see strong growth globally following

a record-breaking 2014, in which it expanded

into 11 new countries across Southeast Asia and Europe. The platform

saw over 262 million new listings around the world for jobs, homes,

cars, and more posted on its platform last year – more than four and a

half times the total postings in 2013.

GSF, which promotes innovation and entrepreneurship in India, launched

the inaugural awards series this year to recognize the most innovative

mobile offerings in the country. Judges examined mobile apps across 13

categories, which have transformed consumer behavior throughout India.

Winners were selected based on design, feature set, user base, and user

ratings, among other considerations.
