Virginia is creating a new state park in Western Loudoun County with 600 acres of donated land that includes historic farmsteads and that borders the Appalachian Trail.
The land was donated to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation from the Old Dominion Land Conservancy of Purcellville.
The conservancy had received the donated land from the Leggett Foundation founded by Robert and Dee Leggett. The foundation had acquired the land that became the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship in Loudoun County.
The center has been open to the public for hiking, exploring nature and participating in environmental learning programs.
Virginia’s official acquisition of the land will occur later this year. After the acquisition is complete the Department of Conservation and Recreation will create master plans for the property as it becomes a state park.
