Canadian artist Ruth Oosterman has found a brilliant way to spark creativity in her work while simultaneously spending quality time with her 2-year-old daughter Eve.

Like many toddlers, Eve began showing an interest in art, particularly when watching her own mother (Ruth) paint.

Taking note of her interest, which Ruth says has recently skyrocketed, the creative mother decided to collaborate with her daughter.“At this point our collaborations begin with her and when she is finished [with] her drawing she passes it off to me so she can watch me paint,” says Ruth.

“I try to work quickly and let imagination and play take root into the painting rather than taking it [too] seriously, this way I can encourage Eve’s contribution without making it [too] ‘grownup.’”

Though the duo work/play for hours with Eve scribbling her sketches and then Ruth adding watercolors, the mother suggests they may mix it up in the future.

Ruth looks forward to the many years of collaborations to come, but says, “If at any point Eve does not want to continue these collaborations I will happily let her move on to something else.”

They may be artistic collaborators at the moment, but first and foremost they are mother and daughter.
