British Actor Peter Vaughan has died at the age of 93.

His agent, Sally Long-Innes confirmed this recently, saying “This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10:30 this morning. He died peacefully with his family around him.”



He was perhaps best known for his role in the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, as Maester Aemon. He also played as Grouty in the TV Sitcom, Porridge.

Vaughan began acting in the 1950s and became a recognizable face after playing numerous supporting roles on stage, television, radio and film.

He mostly played characters that had a tough edge, such as police officers, secret agents, and authoritarian elders.



Vaughan was married to actress Billie Whitelaw for 14 years until 1966. He then went on to marry Lilias Walker, to which he has remaining married to until the day he died.
