1. Bungee Jump Between the Orlando Towers

If you’re an adrenaline junkie stuck in the concrete jungle, you don’t need to travel far for an adrenaline rush. Right here in Soweto, you can bungee jump between the Orlando Towers. Find out more here.

2. Challenge your 4×4 skills with some axil twisters at the Berakah 4×4 Eco Trail

Berakah 4×4 Eco Trail is located on the Berakah Farm in Parys. This 4×4 route is 15km long, and takes about 6 hours to complete. You will meander through savannah, bushveld, mountainous areas and river beds and the route will take you to the Vredefort Dome, a South African World Heritage. 3. Explore some of Gauteng’s most beautiful hiking trails

Gauteng is home to many beautiful hiking trails where you can get in touch with nature, even though you’re not far from the city. Here are some of the top hiking trails, as suggested by Getaway:

Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve

Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, located just south of Johannesburg, has an abundance of wildlife and a network of trails and guided walks. And entrance is FREE! Read more here.

Uitkyk Trail

Uitkyk trail is a rather strenuous, 9 km day trail, but the steep ascent to the top of the Magaliesberg reserve ensures for magnificent views. Read more here.

Hennops Trails

Hennops is one of the most popular hiking spots in Gauteng, due to its close proximity to Joburg and Pretoria, and it’s breathtaking setting and abundance of game. The trail is about 11 km long. Read more here.

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve

Suikerbosrand is located near Heidelberg, south of Joburg. There is a 66km network of easy day trails. The reserve also offers 2 or 3 day hiking options. Read more here.

Bergheim Holiday Resort

Bergheim Holiday Resort in the beautiful Magaliesberg offers a few trail options. The longest and most strenuous hike is 8 km and makes for an ideal full day activity where you can cool off in natural rock pools. Read more here.

4. Discover the ancient Wonder Cave, a hidden gem close to Joburg

The Wonder Cave is located in Kromdraai, Gauteng. It is the third-largest cave chamber in South Africa. The large single chamber is 125 m long and 154 m wide. The cave is estimated to be up to 2.2 billion years old. Read more about the Wonder Cave here and see the location and entry fees here.

5. Admire the Magaliesberg from a hot air balloon

There are a few companies that offer you the opportunity to fly above the magnificent Magalies River Valley and the Magaliesberg range in the Cradle of Humankind. This area, only 45 km from Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, has ideal weather conditions for ballooning and boasts incredible views. Read more here.

6. Challenge friends to a paintball game at the Bush Paintball Range

For another adrenaline rush, go for a game of paintball at the Bush Paintball Range. The venue is at Elephant Rock, 15 minutes north of Fourways Shopping Centre. The paintball range has 6 fields, for all types of players. There are heavily bunkered “close quarter” fields for intense, fast-paced play, as well as genuine bush fields to test a player’s stalking and bush skills. See their website here.

8. Satisfy your need for speed on the thrilling rides at Gold Reef City

Gold Reef City is an amusement park located in the south of Johannesburg and offers a range of entertainment for people with different interests and of all ages. It is located on the site of an old gold mine which was closed down in 1971. The gold mine themed park houses buildings designed in the style of late 1880s period. Read more here.
