We can all claim not to follow trends, but as shops do they usually find their way into wardrobes one way or another. Inspired by fashion week catwalks and trade shows, window displays and shop stock mirrors what’s hot in the press and vice versa, and happily for vintage lovers that often includes a few nods to the past.
With pineapples on tastemakers’ menus this summer it was the turn of Tiki and Mid-century fans to get excited by what’s new. Things got juicy on the high-street with shops looking to out-do each other with dresses, jumpsuits, jackets and accessories emblazoned with the fun fruit and vintage shops harvested some original gems from the 1950s and ’60s for those searching for the real deal.
I picked this fruity dress from Sugarhill Boutique on Sydney Street to wear on my birthday and was over the moon to receive a matching brass pineapple from the husband, who’d apparently been praying that I wouldn’t find one to tick off my wish-list on one of my regular bargain hunts.
Quite a cocktail with my new Welsh tapestry blanket, cute vintage print cushions and JH Lynch’s Tina print dontcha think?
