10 years ago, for the first time the Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés Challenge was organized outside Europe. In 2014, for the fifth time, this challenge will be held in Hong Kong.
36 Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés have been entered for this 2-yearly competition, which consists of a series of eliminating rounds in which the wines are anonymous and merely numbered.
At each round, two wines, compete against each other in three vintages : 2009, 2010 and 2011. The wine that is judged to be the most uniform over the 3 vintages wins. The panel of judges is made up of 3 tasters. A new panel is constituted for each round. The wine receiving the most votes qualifies for the next round, the other wine is eliminated.
The Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés Challenge will be held, in the presence of the President of the Saint-Emilion Wine Council, Jean François QUENIN, accompanied by representatives of the different Saint-Emilion Grand Crus Classés wines competing. The winners of the 14th Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés Challenge will be announced at the end of the tasting.
