'''Gamall''', also known as '''the Hag''', is an old woman with extraordinary glyph powers, who is the main antagonist in [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Thief:_Deadly_Shadows Thief: Deadly Shadows]. She entered the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Shalebridge_Cradle Shalebridge Cradle] to find a human form to infiltrate the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Keepers Keepers]. She found [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Drept,_Inspector Drept] and [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Lauryl Lauryl] playing as children, and killed Lauryl, unaware of Drept's presence. Drept later made it his personal vendetta to find and destroy the Hag. The Hag took Lauryl to a secret room in the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Fort_Ironwood Fort Ironwood] catacombs, where she skinned her, took her form and sealed her grave with magical glyphs.
It was not until years later during [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/The_Final_Glyph the Final Glyph] incident did [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Garrett Garrett] free 'Lauryl' from the Cradle, and take her bottled blood out with him. Lauryl's ghost then led Garrett to her secret grave. He then removed the seal on grave by pouring her blood onto it. At the same time in the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Keeper_Compound Keeper Compound], Gamall was being promoted from "Translator" to "Interpreter" (as Gamall had killed the previous Interpreter [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Caduca Caduca] with glyph magic) giving her access to the ancient texts within the possession of the Keepers, and enabling her to read prophecies. Gamall lost her disguise, and unfortunately several Keepers were killed as Gamall revealed her true self, the Hag. Although Keeper [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Orland Orland] was attending the ceremony, he escaped unscathed through a secret doorway.

Keeper Gamall was one of four keepers to seal the Glyph of Transmutation, and signed the Epilogue of the Chronicles of Daegar along with Keepers [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Daegar,_Keeper Daegar], [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Somersault,_Keeper Somersault], and [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Vandolyn,_Keeper Vandolyn].[http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Gamall#cite_note-0 [1]]
Through in-game notes it is revealed she was once a Keeper herself until she discovered the powerful glyphs that she uses and began working in secret against their order.

A mythical serial killer who purportedly stalks the night slaying victims and stealing their skin. The Hag appears to be the Boogeyman of the Thief world and is featured in a variety of children's rhymes and night-time tales. However few believe she actually exists except Garrett and a Hammerite inspector named Drept. According to Drept the Hag ''"wears death upon her as a cloak. Some who meet her doth vanish. Others perished with bloody work upon their bodies"''. There are hints spoken of creatures made of stone. The tale of a Hag, a bent old woman, who is ever old but grows no older. She has connections to the prophecy that states: ''"When the progress of the time ceases, the evil one will be pointed out for all to see"''.

When Gamall infiltrated the Keepers in the form of Lauryl, she was given the position of Translator, being known as '''Translator Gamall'''. As [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Caduca Caduca's] assistant, she was an eerie pale and emotionless girl who translates Caduca's interpretations into English. As the Translator, Gamall will succeed Caduca as interpreter when Caduca is no longer able to fulfill her duties.

Gamall only patrols areas near the five artifact receptacles. Any passers by will be attacked on sight, making ready opportunity for diversions. Due to her size, she cannot get through most closed passages. Because the designers used the same model properties as for the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Tree_Beast Tree Beast], Gamall has a very high running speed.
Her only in-game weapon is a crimson fireball which she summons with a hand clapping action. This fast moving straight-line projectile is highly damaging, but difficult to aim at other NPCs. She also has the power of temporary invisibility, which she uses shortly after sustaining damage. She does not ''normally'' attack while invisible, but seems to be more aware of nearby opponents.
Although nearly invulnerable, Gamall is still susceptible to injury. She does not need to breathe, and so can endure [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Gas_Bomb noxious gas] and [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Moss_Arrow choking moss], as well as survive underwater, but will not be able to get a clear shot if she falls of the pier in the [http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Docks Docks]. She can easily break her neck if she slips on a stairwell or similarly sloped surface. This differs from a knockout in that she can still become invisible and open her eyes.
