ATT: ALL RESIDENTS OF VICTORIA FALLS RE: Marathon, Half Marathon & Fun Runs on 29 June – Please note that on Sunday
29th June, is the 7th year of the Victoria Falls Marathon, now fully sponsored by Econet. The events will be starting as follows from
opposite Air Zimbabwe on the main road: 06h45 – Full Marathon – similar course to last year with 2 laps around Zambezi drive and into the
park etc, with a few changes on the second lap to allow us to cut out the Kaz road out and back section!
07h15 – Half Marathon – Same course as last year!
08h15 – Fun run, which this year follows the Zambezi drive then left at Nyathi lodge, up to West then right and up to Reynard then right,
then left into the dirt road before Amandabele lodge (second dirt road on your left), then left into the road which comes out behind the
school, then right towards the school and into the sports field to the finish line. The distance is 7.5Km, so it is definitely much longer than
last years event. Please also note for safety reasons we are NOT allowing cyclists on the route and all children under 12 will require an adult
to accompany them. Again this is all for safety reasons, so please comply. Thanks.
Registration needs to be done at the Kingdom Hotel on Friday or Saturday for any of the above from 09h00 to 17h00, no registrations can
be done on the race day. For Full and Half Marathon, we need Zim ID’s or passports to comply with immigration requirements for the run
across the bridge.
Please can those people driving around that morning do so with caution as we are anticipating a much larger field this year.
Thank you – The Race Organisers

CARACAL UNTAMED - is back again! Like last year it will be a day and night event on the CARACAL Biodiversity Centre property,
featuring different musical bands, a live auction, a raffle, and hopefully vendors in multitudes! It will be happening on the 5th of July 2014.
We would like to present all business owners, artists, and creative people the opportunity to sell their goods or set up an activity event at this
festival. We have decided to reduce the booth price from the initial P150 charged last year to P100 for Artists and Curios vendors. There
will be electrical outlets for anyone wanting to make use them. But please remember to bring your own chairs and tables. We are open to
anyone in the community who would like to be part in this event and welcome your creativity and involvement. If you’re interested in buying
space please let us know by June 30th 2014 to allow us to effectively deal with logistics and clearing of vendor spaces. The fees can be paid at
the Biodiversity Centre, or deposited into our CARACAL Biodiversity account #62134612797 Kasane branch. Extra donations are
appreciated too! Please contact Kathy (kathyalx@vt.edu), or Lipa (lipa.t.g.nkwalale@gmail.com) if you have any queries or to make
arrangements. If you know of anybody who would like to take part, and we haven’t included them in the recipients, please tell them to
contact us. Please spread the word if you know of any people who would like to participate. Thank you and we look forward to your

MUNICIPALITY OF VICTORIA FALLS - Temporary Road Closure – Motorists are hereby advised that the following road will be closed
on Friday 27th June 2014 from 0800hrs to 1800hrs: -
Access Road to the banks along Livingstone Way – (Area in front of Barclays Bank including the parking bays only)
Motorists are advised to use alternative access roads within the area during this time of temporary closure. C. Dube
MUNICIPALITY OF VICTORIA FALLS - An appeal for support by the Victoria Falls Municipality to its stakeholders – The Municipality
of Victoria Falls has noted with shock and disbelief the reaction by some sections of our society who are bent on inciting undesirable
behavior among our understanding and highly supportive community. May we through this article set the record straight for the benefit of
the good and well meaning citizens of our beautiful town before our would be detractors do further damage to a good cause.
We wish to highlight forthwith that like any other local authority, the Victoria Falls Municipality survives on revenue collected from rates and
taxes to finance its operations. This makes it imperative for Council to maintain a balanced taxes and rates structure that is commensurate
with prevailing economic conditions at any given point in time. At the present moment our local authority is reeling under financial
challenges and can barely meet its critical obligations of service delivery. Creditors are soaring well beyond Council’s revenue threshold given
current rates.
An objective look at the current regime of Council rates indicates that Council has been under-charging residents and corporates since the
dawn of the multi currency era. Some property owners in the industrial/commercial and low density have been paying as little as $3.74 with
some paying as low as 43cents per month. Surely these charges are not economically viable for the Council given the escalating costs of
service delivery and cannot be compared to what other local authorities like Bulawayo, Gwanda, Mutare and even the Umguza RDC are
charging. Let us not forget that unlike other local authorities Victoria Falls has unique pressure from its world heritage site status which must
be maintained but with budgetary constraints.
Having said that, it suffices to say Council cannot fulfill its obligations with the current rates that are well below the desired levels. For all its
worth, any objective mind would agree that the current rates are not conducive for service delivery and development. It is against such a
background that Council finds it disheartening that the same residents who clamour for quality service delivery would decampaign such
proposals through the mobilization of rate payers to resist a justified move that would not only improve Council revenues but also go a long
way in strengthening the quality of service delivery.
OWNER’S RATES
Minimum Maximum
Domestic
Low density $6.00 $24.00
Medium density $3.00 $12.00
Flats $300.00 $1165.06
Hotels $2500.00 $9620.22
Lodges $300.00 $424.11
Industry/ commercial $130.00 $926.00
Council is always open to dialogue and encourages all stakeholders to come forward with suggestions and proposals as well as to seek
clarification on any issues as opposed to engaging in counter progressive courses of action that seek to incite fellow residents to resist
proposed tariffs or boycott payment of rates. We do encourage residents who may feel that the proposed rates are unreasonable to compare
them with those from other local authorities.
