The North East Quadrant is a landmark building completing the new Regent’s Park development in London. The project, which houses a 16-floor office building, retail units, apartments and an art center, has received a Breeam
Exellence award. Faced with confined spaces, large diameter piping requirements, strict safety and sustainability restrictions (no hot works were allowed on site), as well as the need for ease of maintenance, engineering firm Watkins Payne Partnership, and contractor Briggs and Forrester, turned to Victaulic products to join the HVAC piping system. Victaulic products for grooved piping systems provide a fast, cold-formed joint that require only a hand wrench or power tool to install, eliminating the need for hot works on site. By supplying a union at every joint, Victaulic grooved system allows for a quick access to the system at each joint for easy routine maintenance. Victaulic
QuickVic® rigid and flexible couplings, grooved butterfly valves and check valves were installed throughout the system on carbon steel and stainless steel pipes. QuickVic couplings feature Installation-Ready™ technology,
which eliminates the need to disassemble the coupling prior to installation, making it the fastest pipe joining method in the industry. Moreover, the inherent flexibility of Victaulic QuickVic flexible couplings allows for thermal
expansion and contraction of the system. For larger diameter piping, Victaulic Advanced Grooved System (AGS) was chosen to provide a fast joining solution for pipe sized up to 24"/610mm. Robust AGS couplings feature a two-piece housing that allows for a much faster installation compared to welding or flanging, requiring only two bults and nuts to create a secure joint. Last but not least, the installation met the project's "green" criteria with Victaulic grooved end pipe joining solutions discharging zero emissions. Installing Victaulic products also provided Briggs and Forrester a fast, safe, high quality installation while avoiding the use of open flames and hot works on site.
