If you are a Battlefield fan, chances are good you have caught the official Gamescom 2016 trailer for Battlefield 1 by now.

You may also have watched some of the many game play videos which are currently circulating on YouTube featuring the brand new Sinai Desert map.

When you think about World War I, what do you picture?  A lot of us default immediately to images of European trench warfare.  But World War I was a world war, and it took soldiers on a brutal tour of duty through diverse settings in numerous different countries.

The Middle East was a turning point for the Allied forces in WWI, particularly where the defense of the Suez Canal was concerned in 1915-1916.

Next week during the public beta of Battlefield 1, we will all have a chance to get a taste of what it was like to battle in the Middle East during WWI.  In the Sinai Desert map, muddy trenches are replaced by swirling desert sands, vast open desert, and even some tight quarters in the form of narrow alleyways.

Here is what to expect:

Dynamic weather takes the form of fierce sandstorms occluding visibility.  Sandstorms will also make it tough to pilot planes or snipe from rooftops.

Choose from a huge range of roles and experiences.  Pilot an airplane and engage in mid-air dogfights or climb inside an armored tank.  Snipe from a window or throw grenades from horseback.

Armored Train Behemoths will bring an engaging new twist to the combat experience.  Whenever one side is doing significantly better than the other, the struggling team will be granted an Armored Train Behemoth.  This beast provides a ton of explosive weapons and possibilities, immediately leveling the playing field.  This ups the challenge for the other team, requiring an immediate adjustment in tactics to hold the upper hand.

All in all, the Sinai Desert Conquest level is shaping up to be a groundbreaking FPS experience like no other!  The Battlefield 1 open beta begins August 31st!
