As I mentioned in this blog post from last week, Dave and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary on May 24th. It’s so hard to believe we’ve already been married a year! Because we wanted to be able to go all out of our anniversary date night, we postponed our celebration until Friday and did drinks and appetizers, followed by a show at the comedy club and a walk downtown. Since we’ve been saving for a house for a house for the last year (and saving for a wedding for the two years before that), date nights don’t come around as often as we’d like. Since this was a special occasion, I wanted to make sure I looked great and felt comfortable and confident all night for both myself and for Dave. Outfit
When it comes to feeling gorgeous and comfortable on date night, the outfit is obviously the first step. I chose a casual dress out of my closet that is ridiculously comfortable, but also dressy enough for a big date night.
Comfortable Shoes
One thing I love about going out in downtown Madison is that everything is close enough to walk to. Once we got downtown, we were able to walk from dinner to the show and up and down State Street. Since we’d be walking, that meant comfortable shoes! I bought these wedges for a wedding last year, and they’ve been a favorite ever since. They’re super comfortable for walking around all evening and are my go-to for summer.
Favorite Purse
I always reach for my favorite purse on date night. It’s particularly appropriate for celebrating our anniversary because it was a gift from Dave a few years ago! It’s large enough to fit everything I need for the evening but small and light enough that it’s not a hindrance to carry around all night.
Purse Essentials
Comb – My hair is thick and relatively unruly, so I always like to keep a comb for date nights so I can fix it up as the night goes on. This is especially important when we’re out on a windy night!
Makeup for Touch-Ups – I want to make sure I’m looking my best on date nights, especially a special occasion like this one, so I bring lipstick and some powder with me so I can touch up my makeup if necessary.
