The first month of January had predictably lower sales than the month before as the holidays tend to inflate December sales and people are generally broke for things like comics. What is immediately eye-catching here is that neither DC nor Marvel is dominating the first slot, but instead Walking Dead #150! This must have been assumed to be a collectable issue by non-comic fans and not a promotion since its sales numbers is just slightly higher than normal at just above 150,000. What is especially surprising about this is that it actually came above the final issue of Secret Wars, though this could be just because people are pretty past the Secret Wars event at this point. Beyond that and Batman #48 at number 8 and Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 and number 23, the top thirty are pretty much just Marvel. This is partially because of the number #1s, but it is also simply because they are newer books. This indicates that they will likely be on top for a number of months to come, most likely most of 2016. DC was largely in the 30-60,000 unit range, competing with major indie books like Paper Girls and the lesser selling Marvel books like Scarlet Witch.
Boom Studios had a major hit with Power Rangers #0 at number 39, which we are guessing will be less than the actual #1 will sell. Because of the density of Big Two books on the market right now, indie titles came in lower than normal. The new line of Vertigo books all come in at 12,000 and below, meaning they are likely going to straddle the line with most of the Image and IDW books.
