Just because it’s 2017 doesn’t mean things aren’t scary anymore,

And that most certainly includes films. But no need to fear, because there are several scary movies in the year to come that are sure to bring you both fright and delight if your a fan of horror.

Friday the 13th

Casey Becker and her boyfriend bit it big time in Scream when she incorrectly answered who the killer was in Friday the 13th (Mrs. Voorhees, duh.). But now Jason is about to be the answer to all your momma’s boy slasher needs. Producers of the last installment, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, will be working on this new edition to the franchise as well, and this time we are headed back to Camp Crystal Lake. With the movie set to come out this October, it doesn’t matter if your a returning counselor or a new camper. The producers have stated that, “if you haven’t seen any go the other ones, you can still come and see this one and love it and not feel like you’ve missed out on anything.”

It

A lot of you may remember growing up, living in fear of the traumatizing Tim Curry clown movie. Well get ready for some familiar nightmares to come flooding back because Stephen King’s classic novel It is being brought to life on the big screen once again. What is different about this version though is that it is set to be done in two parts, the first being released this September. This one will focus on “The Losers’ Club” in their youth and their interactions with It/Pennywise the Clown at that age. You may even recognize one of the youngsters as Finn Wolfhard, who played Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things.

Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral

Finally all your dreams (or perhaps nightmares) have come true. The backroad demon that follows the tune of the 1938 song “Jeepers Creepers” is getting a third installment. Gina Phillips, who played Trish in the original movie, will be returning for the third leg of the trilogy. The plot is said to be as follows: “Trish Jenner is now a mother of a teenage son named Darry, named after the brother she lost 23 years ago. Trish has a recurring nightmare where her son suffers the same fate as her brother did, killed by the Creeper. Determined to prevent this from happening, Trish, who is now a rich and powerful woman, sets out on a final quest with Jack Taggart Sr. and Jr. to end the Creeper’s reign of terror once and for all.” Fans of the cult classic need to keep their “peepers” open for this one.

Cage Dive

Who doesn’t love a good shark movie? Whether a bunch of kids get eaten in Jaws, Blake Lively fights for her life in The Shallows, or we dedicate an entire week of television to staring into their soulless, black eyes, we can’t get enough of these big baddies of the ocean. Something else people can’t seem to get enough is found footage horror, and this film luckily has both. That’s right folks, time to blow up your floaties because 2017 may just give us the great white shark nightmares we never knew we wanted.

Leatherface

Jason Voorhees isn’t the only the MVP of horror getting a revival this year. But while the hockey mask slasher returns to camp, you’ll return to the childhood of the chainsaw wielding killer, Leatherface. For those of you not well versed in horror, Leatherface stars as the leading man in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  With no set release date yet, one of the only things known of the film thus far is the synopsis, which is: “When a young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens, who escape from a mental hospital, they take her on the road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.”

This is only a taste of some of the horror movies to come this year.

Another one to look out for is Alien: Covenant, which you can read about here. The trailer came out a month ago, and it promises just as many horrific thrills as these other films.
