It’s the most wonderful time of the year, filled with some of the most wonderful movies!

It’s undeniable that the holidays pair perfectly with holiday movie binge watching. These movies are perfect for snuggling up to with a warm cup of hot chocolate to get right into the holiday spirit. Even those with no passion for the holiday season (heathens) can admit that these films are at least an 8/10:

1. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Before anyone gets mad at me for singling out this Home Alone movie, hear me out: yes, the o.g. Home Alone is a da** good Christmas movie, but this one is so much better. It’s just so much more Christmas-y and insanely iconic. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing New York City at Christmastime?

2. The Polar Express

Aside from the creepily realistic animation, The Polar Express is captivating watch. There’s something to soothing and warm about watching a train full of excited kids run smoothly across miles of flat snowy land. It’s a winter wonderland with a detailed vision of Santa’s North Pole that is guaranteed to make you feel like a kid again.

3. Elf

If you don’t like this movie you’re a cotton-headed ninny muggins. Also, it has the amazing Will Ferrell AND Zoey Deschanel (a universal favorite) in one of her cutest roles, so you can’t deny it belongs on this list.

4. The Holiday

This romantic comedy has it all: house swaps, the cute and quaint English countryside, Jude Law, early 2000s fashion, and Jack Black not acting like an idiot (but mostly just Jude Law, *heart eyes*). This is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, it’s a must watch this holiday.

5. How The Grinch Stole Christmas

I feel like I appreciate this movie a lot more now that I’m older and can really feel for The Grinch and his sarcastic, lazy, self-deprecating mood swings. I think every college student is The Grinch in some way or another. Overall though, this movie is super funny (especially if you appreciate drier senses of humor) and a Christmas classic!

6. Love, Actually

I hear you groaning, I do, but bare with me. As popular as it is to hate on this movie, let’s try something new like maybe not hating it? Because it’s actually really good? maybe? This movie is why I have “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys saved on my Spotify. And it’s why I have an undying love for Hugh Grant. Also who doesn’t love cheesy romance movies? And Liam Neeson as a great dad? And Thomas Brodie-Sangster being super precious? Okay, I’m done, I promise.

7. The Santa Clause

Tim Allen is legendary, this movie is legendary. To make the idea of Santa Clause so utterly realistic and attainable? A+ job, Hollywood. There’s something so humble and fun about this movie that I can’t get over it. It’s a true Christmas staple, 5 stars all the way.

8. The Family Stone

Most of the movies on this list have been fun, good-hearted films filled with holiday cheer. This is one isn’t, it’s something better. The most relatable movie on this list has to be this one because it accurately depicts the struggles of a disagreeing family on Christmas. Being with family can be hard sometimes, and there’s no reason to sugarcoat that. It’s an idea that everyone with a big family can relate to, which is why this movie is on this list, also it made me cry but it was so worth it.

9. A Christmas Story

This early 80s film is iconic in so many ways: from the leg lamp to Ralphie’s first f-bomb, this movie is almost unavoidable during the holidays. It doesn’t help that TBS runs a 24-hour marathon of the film from the night of Christmas Eve into Christmas day, but I’m not complaining because it’s really a Christmas classic. “You’ll shoot your eye out”? Legendary.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas ya filty animals!
