Janelle Monáe is also scheduled to perform alongside Kendrick Lamar.

Kendrick Lamar is scheduled to return to the White House this weekend for a Fourth of July concert to honor and celebrate military heroes. According to Politico, the event will include a barbecue and fireworks. Lamar is expected to perform on the White House’s South Lawn at the Independence Day celebration along with Janelle Monae.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest confirmed to reporters Friday, saying:

“White House staff and their families from throughout the administration will also attend this event for the fireworks viewing… There will also be a performance on Monday evening by fellow Kansas Citian Janelle Monáe and Kendrick Lamar.”

It’s been no secret that President Barack Obama has a special place for Lamar after he revealed that the rapper’s “To Pimp A Butterfly” was a favorite of his in 2015. The President and Lamar have even spoken with one another on the “Pay It Forward” program, a program that encourages the mentoring of inner city youth.

While Lamar may be no stranger to the White House, neither is Monáe, whom previously recorded a track for First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let Girls Learn” program and attended an April summit to discuss criminal justice reform alongside dozens more artists.
