The Australian emcee, Allday has just released a new single “Sides” and all we can say about it is that it’s dope!
With this debut, Allday truly takes us through a new perspective of the rap world with his unique sound. The Australian music scene is hopping with artists with new vibes who are trying to show off what they got globally. His new track “Sides” is a reverb all of its own, and with the appearance of the fellow Melbourne entertainer Nyne, he gets the angelic compliment to his stoic freestyle.
He was recently premiered on the publication Mass Appeal and what they had to say about the rapper is that “his introspective rhymes reveal an older side to him than meets the eye…. The bass heavy track confronts some trust issues he’s had that many rappers go through at some point in their careers. But his delivery should be reason enough to understand his unique story.”
This artist has been heard everywhere though, even if you haven’t heard of him yet. He has bee recognized by such publications and acts as Sway in the Morning (whom he visited in New York a little bit ago), Rolling Stone, Paper Magazine, i-D, NYLON among many more!
The “August” rapper took the music scene by storm in his home of Adelaide (now Melbourne,) and then rapidly, all of Australia. His shows were completely sold out in venues all over and he was gaining traction of high praise from many large institutions in the continent.
Furthermore, in this track, we follow Allday on this reflection of the difficulty of betrayal and disloyalty in this day and age when you lose perspective of yourself. In an interview with Mass Appeal, he told the publication what “Sides” is all about. “I’m talking about being loyal to the people who have always been there for me. The friends who I grew up with and the friends who have my best interests at heart, no matter how crazy or stupid they may be. It’s also about staying true to myself, and not forgetting the type of person I want to be.”
What I love is how easy his rap flow goes, and how easy the track is on the ears, while still being as hardcore and emphatic as any other beat. He does very much remind me of a Big Sean and Childish Gambino- but with a sick Adelaide-Aussie accent. Nyne only augments the sonic impact of this track. I found myself jamming to this song on repeat, as if switching the song back and forth. Quite literally, as you listen to the beat, you can hear the xylophone-like notes morph into the tones of moving places, switching sides per se. With an Aussie accent layered with sincere and gentle vocals, a calm instrumental base, and a heavy-hitting bass beat, we are delivered an innovative fabrication of melodies and intonations. We get our own cocktail of simple eerie tunes and voices, melded with the intensity of the message.
In the single, he spits:
“No hit records on my demo
No talent this is effort
Sculpting stone like Donatello of the clouds, visionary
Ray of light ray of light
Found myself out in the desert
Arizona sky like neon nerds
System filled with venom
But if that’s their disses for me I do not feel disrespected
I just feel young, wealthy, kinda handsome, independent…”
“Sides” is part of the creation of his recent LP release Startup Cult, which dropped back in September of 2015 with the release help of Wind-Up Records. So, it has been some time since we have heard from Allday, and why this is an impressive track to be his return to his fans.
This single had a lot of work put into it to make it something special, that it is. You can hear the perfection put into place to make the mixing and mastering of the track solid. In addition, some big names went to completing the record such as being: mixed by Rob Kinelski (of Big Sean), mastered by Chris Athens (of Drake, ILoveMakonnen, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, PartyNextDoor, and Childish Gambino), and co-produced by his fellow Aussi-performer, Nyne, who recently had the chance to collaborate withe OVO producer & writer Sevn Thomas (of Rihanna’s single “Work” and Drake’s single “Pop Style”). Phew, ya, so a lot of amazing features and collaborations; this artist is heavily connected.
So do you love it? If you do, don’t worry because this flow will be available to buy on Friday, July 22nd– so stay tuned!
