The Dirty Dancing resort is opening up it’s doors and now you have a chance to stay at the famous get-away.
Filmed in 1987, Dirty Dancing is classic. I mean how can the line “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” not go viral??? If you are a ‘Dirty Dancing’ fan, (and I mean who isn’t?), you’ve probably always wanted to visit the famous Dirt Dancing resort. You’ve probably always wondered what it would be like to have a summer romance there and take dance lessons on the grounds. Well, although a summer romance is not guaranteed, now you can finally experience visiting the camp where Baby and her family spent their summer vacation.
The film portrays “Kellerman’s” in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. However, this iconic resort is not actually located there. In reality, the home away from home sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Pembroke, Virginia.
The resort is offering 3 weekends this summer that features a Dirty Dancing theme. Although the resort was renovated in 2012, a weekend here still provides an authentic dirty dancing experience that includes dancing lessons, a watermelon toss, and a guided walking tour. Even with the updates, you can rest assured that many of the original charming characteristics are still in tact. For example, the lakeside gazebo that featured the conga line is very much still there. The Dirty Dancing producers chose the Virginia resort due to its old retro feel. Many of the resort’s buildings were there since the 1930’s which gave it it’s memorable atmosphere. Most importantly, you can stay in the cabin where Baby and her family stayed in the film. All we need to know now, is if we can stay in the staff quarters where scenes between Baby and Johnny got a little steamy!
Guests from all over the world continue to come to Mountain Lake Lodge specifically for the Dirty Dancing Weekends. Now, it’s your turn. So, hurry up and make your way down for a weekend of fun, family time and nostalgia!
