Thursday night was an electrifying night for music in the Syracuse Community.

Two talented musicians graced the stage at the SRC Arena and Events Center at Onondaga Community College (OCC) in Syracuse, New York and I was fortunate enough to attend as a Verge Campus SU writer.

They did a great job in proving why hip hop/rap has been an infectious part of popular culture and why it will remain that way. Zak Downtown and Future brought the heat Thursday evening in front of thousands of fans and what a concert it was!

If you haven’t heard of him already, there’s no doubt that his name won’t be on your radar soon. Zak Downtown is an up and coming rap artist who has a mix of electric hip hop that includes a gritty urban sound. Zak has released a mixtape, ‘Always Down Vol. 1,’ and multiple singles on Soundcloud justifying his rising stardom. Thursday night Zak was the opening act for Future and he was simply amazing. His set incorporated the musical blends of rap and R&B, while also giving a flare of EDM tones. The crowd was definitely feeling his vibe. He’s a dynamic talent that will have no problem topping the charts.

The man of the hour was none other than the King of Atlanta, Future. The audience went crazy when he came out on stage and he certainly felt the love. Future has been in the industry since 2009 and hasn’t stopped since. He began as a featured artist while releasing various singles. So far in his career he has four studio albums and five mixtapes, all of which are successful. Thursday nights concert included some of his best hits such as Karate Chop, Turn on the Lights, Where Ya At, I’m the Plug, Jumpman, March Madness and many more.

Future’s stage presence was insane and his interaction with his fans in the crowd was nothing but genuine. Future cannot be stopped and when he performed, he affirmed why he is one of the hottest musical acts out right now.

My fellow staff writer, K.High, and I had the privilege to sit down and Interview Zak so stay on the look out for that story soon!
