Frank talk about big ideas

Each of the speakers — which include 22 physicians, 11 CEOs, and three chief medical information officers —  will bring a unique perspective to the problem of using data to make our health care system more cost-effective and value-oriented.

At the center of the conversation is the electronic health record (EHR), which can be thought of as the central engine into which all sorts of clinical and financial information can flow in and out.

These inputs range from the sensors in consumer wearable devices to the connected medical devices in the hospital to the massive research databases that deliver actionable care protocols to doctors.

Our speakers will also talk about the technology and best practices required to keep all that data secure, private, and compliant.

In the end, everyone in attendance will begin to see the outlines of the much more efficient, effective, and secure data-driven delivery system of the future.

On the main stage

The conference features 59 main stage sessions. Here are some examples of the conversations that will take place:

Aneesh Chopra (former CTO of the White House under President Obama), Aaron Levie (CEO of Box), and Bob Kocher (Venrock partner, and one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act) will be discussing how the health care system can leverage the cloud to address the most taxing interoperability and analytics problems it faces today.

Above: Bryan Sivak, CTO of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Department of Health and Human Services CTO Bryan Sivak  will talk to VentureBeat CEO Matt Marshall about his belief that today’s health care system is data-rich and analysis-poor, as well as touch on standards, privacy, and regulatory issues. And yes, he’ll talk about Ebola, too.

Heatlh care futurist Dr. Daniel Kraft will talk about the future of the EHR, and how it might fit into health care delivery system of the future.

Peter Tippett, MD, PhD (Verizon Healthcare) and Krista Drobac (Alliance for Connected Care) will be talking about how data can be used to remove the worst — and costliest — friction points from the patient journey through the health care system.

Overall, more than 500 health care executives, IT decision makers, investors, and press will discuss trends, highlight solutions, and showcase breakthrough products in health care technology.
