Mark Allio will be back at the Café for office hours. Mark is Regional Director of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center (MSBDC) Network’s Boston Regional Office & Minority Business Center at UMass Boston. MSBDC provides free one-on-one business advisory services, entrepreneurial training workshops, and special assistance in gaining access to capital. MSBDC Advisors are all former entrepreneurs. Mark previously co-founded two business ventures: TracRac, a Fall River-based manufacturer of automotive accessories, and Virtuous.com, an e-ticketing service provider serving the arts and entertainment industry. 5:30 – 6:30 P.M. | Is the Market the Solution for Clean Water at the Bottom of the Pyramid?

Chat with Faith Wallace, a molecular microbiologist who has seen the effects of cholera in Haiti and Bangladesh. She is now dedicated to stopping the spread of waterborne disease by finding solutions that combine appropriate technology and market knowledge to provide clean water and sanitation to those who need it. This fall she is convening a group of dreamers, thinkers, makers and doers in the Archimedes Project to start a social enterprise to help stop the spread of cholera in Haiti.

5:30 – 6:30 P.M. | For Profit And For Principle: How To Have It All

Chat with Nathan Rothstein, co-founder and President of Repat. Project Repat makes it easy and fun for people to upcycle their clothes. People send their memory-filled t-shirts; Project Repat sends back a blanket or tote bag. Production is done in Massachusetts by someone making a living wage. Since launching last year, Repat customers have prevented over 200,000 t-shirts from getting dumped in landfills and created 25 manufacturing jobs in the state. Previously, Nathan worked on several Katrina-related recovery projects in New Orleans, where he was named the city’s “40 under 40”. Repat has been featured in the Boston Globe, The Huffington Post, and the Today Show. Fast Company named Repat one of the top shopify stores of 2012.

Join a conversation led by Jim Newman, Founder and Director of Metrics at Linnean Solutions, which provides environmental performance benchmarking and tracking for corporate, institutional, and municipal clients. Linnean’s work includes ecosystem services assessment, life cycle assessment, embodied carbon studies, and site benchmarking for pre-development studies. Jim will be leading a discussion about sustainable cities and galvanizing community input to design metrics based Eco-Districts

6:30 – 7:30 P.M. |  Educating Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs

The Possible Project (TPP) is a Cambridge-based nonprofit that runs a program for at-risk teens in the Greater Boston area. TPP staff will be at Venture Café to discuss how you can get involved in a range of one-time and ongoing volunteer roles. Find out how to share your entrepreneurial know-how with teenagers wanting to to start and run their own business.

Learn how Ambient is reducing energy consumption by alerting consumers to upcoming power events.

6:30 – 7:30 P.M. | Imagining A New Economy

Chat with Filippo Ravalico, who joined the New Economics Institute (NEI) in the Fall of 2012. NEI’s mission is to build a New Economy that prioritizes the well-being of people and the planet. Filippo has directed his energy to the sustainable agriculture space since 2010. He worked with nonprofit organizations like The Carrot Project and the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association as well as with community leaders and entrepreneurs to expand access to capital for small-scale farms and food businesses across New England, New York, and Ohio.
