Child support is mandatory for a man whether you are legally married or not. In Kenya when divorce happens, especially involving rich people, women rush to court to seek maintenance and child support. The issue has often touched famous people, who despite dodging court processes end up coughing more than they anticipated. In this list we have famous Kenyans who have faced the law after neglecting the children they sired.

William Samoei Ruto

William Ruto is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. The former ODM leader was sued by Prisca Chemutai Bett, a former Moi University student. MS Chemtai claimed Ruto sired her 11-year-old daughter and ran away. But in his response, Ruto claimed his child is well catered for.

The Deputy President, in his Twitter account said he offered the woman a Ksh90,000 job plus Ksh40,000 monthly upkeep for the child. He added that he took the child to an expensive international school.

But despite Ruto’s claims, the woman has gone ahead and sued Ruto ,and has requested the court to force the DP to pay Ksh 149,000 per month.

Philip Moi

Philip Moi is the son of former President,Daniel Arap Moi.The former Army officer was sued by his wife, Rossana Pluda,after they divorced. The case,which took almost three years, resolved that Philip be paying Rossana Ksh 250,000 every month

Philip had to contest the court decision, arguing that despite being the son of the former president, he doesn’t have the suggested amount. The court dismissed his argument and instead forced him to remit the amount every month.

Esther Passaris and Pius Ngugi

Pius Ngugi is one of the richest Kikuyu alive. The billionaire was sued in 2003 by business lady Esther Passaris for child support. Esther was demanding Ksh 200,000 every month for the upkeep but the billionaire deposited Ksh 9.6 million into Esther’s account, the amount the Adopt A Light CEO depleted within a short period.

Moses Wetangula

Moses Wetangula is the Co-principal of CORD coalition. The Bungoma Senator was in 2013 sued by Ms Agnes Nduku for child support and upkeep

Mr Wetangula was ordered to pay Sh270, 000 as maintenance fees and an additional Sh120, 000 annual fee meant for the child’s clothing and other needs.

Kenneth Marende – Former speaker

Kenneth Marende is another Kenyan politician who was suffocated by court cases involving child support. The former speaker was sued by Jennifer Nkouwa.The woman claimed she had a thing with Wetangula and later a child came. She demanded Ksh 400,000 monthly upkeep.

Mike Sonko – Senator Nairobi

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko also faced a court case involving child support. Josephine Thuku,who hails from Kwale ,sued Sonko demanding a monthly maintenance amount of Sh140,000 that included Sh100,000 for food and upkeep, Sh10,000 for clothing, Sh10,000 for medical expenses and Sh20,000 as house allowance.Sonko agreed to pay the amount and emphasized that he was paying school fees for his child.
