Dulwich Paragon CC is delighted to announce the 56th Wally Gimber trophy, which will take place on Sunday 22 March over 100 miles. The event has been given National A classification, making it the first top-class road race in the South East for many years and the first in the UK in 2015.

We are particularly pleased to welcome Rapha as a sponsor. Their contribution will facilitate improved road safety measures and better HQ facilities.

The Race

The race will start at 11 am and will run on the well-known Tenterden/Appledore circuit, near Ashford in Kent. There will be eight laps of this sporting 20 km circuit. Race HQ will be Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre, which has excellent facilities and will be an enormous improvement on our previously-used village hall.

Event details and entries

Patrick Hawkins, Event Organiser, said “I am excited to be organising this year’s Wally Gimber Trophy road race, with its new National A classification. Dulwich Paragon is a fantastic club with brilliant and experienced people able to support our promotion. We have had great support from British Cycling and from Rapha, for which we are very grateful. I’m looking forward to a safe and exciting “spring classic”.

Nigel Wood, Chair of Dulwich Paragon CC, said “The Wally Gimber trophy race has earned its place as an early season classic and a favourite race for many riders. The club is delighted that with the generous support of our sponsors we can run the race at National A level to mark the club’s 80th anniversary.”

The Wally Gimber is such a loved and enduring fixture in the British cycling calendar and we’re delighted to be supporting it. Whilst there’s a growing number of cyclists in the UK, the roads are still dangerous and this can cast a dark cloud, so we’re pleased we can help Dulwich Paragon to put on an event with additional safety measures to improve the racing experience for all the riders.”

The Wally Gimber Trophy is the longest continuously running annual and named after Wally Gimber who was a leading club member in the 1950s. As well as Rapha, local solicitor David Rumm has also agreed to sponsor us once again. We are extremely grateful to both for their support in making what we hope will be a safe and exciting race, with great facilities and organisation.
