Sunday saw the 4th and final round of the Cotswold Veldrijden Summer Series at the Cotswold Airport near Cirencester.

45 riders lined up in the combined senior, vet, woman and Junior race, in cool and windy conditions. From the start a group of 3 riders, Scott Chalmers (Dream cc), Peter Banham (Fred’s RT) & Dan Lewis (RAF CC) got a gap from the rest of the field, these three kept close order, swapping positions occasionally until on lap 4 when Chalmers took a heavy fall on a sharp right hand turn.

He remounted only to find the rear wheel was locked solid, this was caused by the rear brake being knocked into the spokes, this was dealt with and Chalmers made his way back to the pits for a bike change and to try and claw back the time and many places lost. Banham and Lewis stayed together for the remaining 5 laps, as they turned into the finish straight on the final lap Banham opened up the sprint and was just too strong for Lewis &won by just a few seconds.

Third position went to Benoit Davies (Cheltenham CC) who rode a very strong and consistant race, 4th went to a very fast charging Scott Chalmers. 1st junior went to Callum Haseler of host team Cotswold Veldrijden and 1st Woman was Helen Bennett of Cadence RT.

8 youngsters took to the line for the first race, run over 15 minutes of a shortened circuit using the grass and woods. The winner from start to finish was once again Luke Simmonds of Stratford CC who was followed by his Luke Morgan in second spot.

7 Youths started the 30 minute race and Keir Lewis of Stratford CC continued his good form by leading the Youth race from start to finish with Luke Simmonds chasing him hard over the 4 laps but he was unable to match his speed and Lewis was a clear winner.

The overall winner of the 4 race series went to Scott Chalmers, with Peter Banham 2nd, & Dan Lewis 3rd. 1st Vet was John Dalton, 1st Junior Callum Haseler & 1st woman Beth George. The prize for all of the category winners was a flight around the local area in the now blue skies and brilliant sunshine, courtesy of the Cotswold Veldrijden & Cotswold Flying School. A huge thank you has to go out for the many members of the Cotswold Veldrijden race team who put in many hours of work throughout August to make this race series a huge success.
