Team Sky’s Luke Rowe to host the inaugural “Hitters Grand Prix” sponsored by Truly Scrumptious Cakes …

Offering one of the largest prize funds in GB domestic cycling and in aid of Leukemia and Lymphoma Research, this summer will see a new professional bike race come to South Wales, and it is the brainchild of one Britain’s top road cyclists, Team Sky’s Luke Rowe.

The race, the “Hitters Grand Prix” will take place on the 14th August at the Llandow Race Circuit just outside Cardiff, and will offer the winner one of the biggest prizes in British domestic racing. The first prize of £2,000, a £500 prime, and £500 for the minor placings is thanks to the main sponsor, Cardiff based Truly Scrumptious Cakes.

Cath Ingram from Truly Scrumptious Cakes said, “We are delighted to be the sponsors of this fantastic cycling event. Cycling and eating cake have long gone together, so we are really excited about being involved.”

As well as the Elite race, there will be a race for Category 2, 3, 4, and Women riders, the “Chippers Grand Prix” and children’s races, the “Nippers Grand Prix”, where all the prizes have been kindly donated by cycle clothing manufacturer and Team Sky sponsor Rapha.

The top 3 domestic teams in the UK, Team UK Youth, Rapha-Condor JLT, and Madison-Genesis, have all confirmed that they will be sending teams, and one of the favourites for the Men’s Elite race will undoubtedly be Rapha-Condor JLT’s 2 time Olympic Champion, Ed Clancy.

Welsh rider Jon Mould, part of Team UK Youth.

The event is planned to be a real festival of cycling with DJs, children’s entertainment, a bouncy castle, and food stalls to entertain and feed all the fans that come and watch. All the proceeds from the event will go to Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. The event will start at 5.40pm with the “Hitters Grand Prix” taking place at 8.00pm.

Luke said, “I’ve always wanted to put something back into the cycling community in South Wales that has done so much to support my career, and this just seemed like the perfect way to do it. To be able to offer such a great prize fund, and raise money for such a great charity at the same time make it all the more special. I can’t wait to be there and watch the racing.”

Luke Rowe is a 23 year old professional cyclist from Cardiff and in his second season riding for Team Sky, having recorded his maiden professional win on Stage 1 of last years Tour of Britain.

This year he has been part of Team Sky’s “Classics Squad” and was selected to ride both Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders.
