Ernie Loya, the namesake creator of Big Ern's BBQ, is the most deserving culinary tenant inside downtown's Container Park. The former Zappos employee has been serving up his brand of St. Louis-style barbecue in an empty lot across from the park site since October 2012. His makeshift serving location has watched the park slowly rise, while his smoker was frequently moved to temporary locations to accommodate the construction upheavals. He now occupies a prime perch in the middle of the attraction.
The red former shipping container features indoor square wooden tables, but most will opt for the outdoor seating facing the children's play park in the middle of the family friendly destination. Big Ern's menu even offers a kid's meal to add to roster of brisket, ribs, pork and all choices carnivore.
Their container is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 1 a.m on Friday and Saturday.
