As I was getting ready to make the announcement for June Body by Plants enrollment, I reflected back on my own health journey.  I did something I rarely have time to do–pulled out my old family photos.  I was in for a treat.

As I looked through the images, starting from the time Hubby and I got hitched, I remembered why I was desperate to do whatever it took to be healthy.  You have probably already read how I redeemed my health: reversed hypothyroidism, and cured pituitary adenoma and infertility. Today I want to show you how my lifestyle change helped me to achieve permanent* weight loss.

*while countless yo-yo weight loss programs might help one achieve weight loss, they fall short in offering a permanent healthy approach.  Only a well planned dietary weight loss program can help you maintain your optimal weight for the rest of your life–permanently.  I will talk about my approach in just a minute. 

My Permanent Weight Loss Journey

While I was not always overweight, stress and birth control meds got me to my heaviest of 168 lbs–way too much for my small frame. I felt miserably and did not love the way I looked.





By 2005 things got worse, as I was encouraged to try different birth control prescription medications by my OBGYNs. While my diet had not changed, my weight did.



I looked and felt tired, unhappy, and lived with a medically induced depression for a few unhappy years.

By 2006 by getting off the patch (birth control) I lost about 15 lbs of weight!

In 2007 I met my husband’s college classmate, who was dying of cancer. I began to research health and nutrition, in hopes of helping her save her life.  While what I learned in the process led Hubby and I to change our diet, our friend did not to change hers and slowly deteriorated.  She did not make it.

By 2009 we were plant-strong for almost 2 years.  The health benefits were evident, and weight loss was a great perk. I lost a total of 48 lbs, Hubby lost 60 lbs–that is a good size person between the two of us!

From that point on we did not have to work hard to feel and look great.  Weight maintenance was easy as long as we ate a clean diet and added regular exercise. We were beaming with life.

In 2011, after years of infertility, having completed only one month of B12 therapy, we were finally expecting.

In 2012 there was that temporary baby weight gain, but it was for a good cause.  All of it was gone in less than two months post-partum.

In my line of business I often encounter people who want to lose weight and often do it by using fad diets. Most of these diets are not sustainable, so people fall back into their old ways, having lost a few pounds, and quickly find themselves regaining the weight they carried, and, often, packing on a few more pounds.

Fad diets do not work!  An average person does not have the time (nor the will) to spend her days counting calories, counting points or going to meetings.

My success can be fully credited to two factors: a well-balanced plant-based diet, and exercise.  While I do not have as much time to workout these days, now that I am a Mom with a full-time business on my hands, my dietary habits allow for me not to worry what I am going to look like in a year or two.  I know that as long as I eat what I have been eating since 2007–a whole foods, plant-based diet–I am cruising through life without a worry about regaining the 48 lbs. I lost.
