JGram - Grammar lessons divided into JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Levels.

Free Japanese Lessons  - Lesson 1-10 includes a lot of common phrases and basic adjectives and verb conjugations. Level 10 onward requires you to sign up, but lessons are still free.

Genki - More verb conjugations!! The Genki Workbooks are also very nice. You can buy them off of Amazon.

Marugoto - Provides grammar lessons along with audio and videos of everyday situations.

READING MATERIAL

NHK News - News website with simplified articles. Originally written for kids and the readings for the all the kanji are available.

Lang-8 - an online community of people learning different languages. You can write a passage in the language you’re studying and native speakers will correct it for you.

Fluent U - A site where you can watch videos in foreign languages and study the vocabulary and grammar from certain videos.

Tofugu - a blog with many articles about Japanese culture, language, life, school, etc. They are the creators of WaniKani and an online textbook called Textfugu ( You can try the first season for free, but the access to the rest requires payment. It doesn’t really work for me but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you!)

Jisho.org - the best online Japanese English dictionary. If you don’t know how to read a kanji you can find it by selecting the radicals. Also has tons of example sentences.

Official JLPT Website - Information on where and when to take the test. You can also do sample questions to determine your level (N5-N1, N5 being the easiest)

Official Kanji Kentei Website- The Kanji Kentei (shortened to Kanken) is a test designed for Japanese people, so there is no English website. There are 12 levels, 10-1 (including pre-2 and pre-1), 10 being the easiest and 1 being the hardest.

I hope this helps some of you!!!
