Sail to lands of greater happiness in 2015

Sailing to your harbor

2015 is a pivotal year

Did you know that Vedic astrology says that you can cultivate a happier mindset this year? It is based on a 12 year cycle of Jupiter, and Jupiter inhabits a spectacular place in the heavens in 2015. Read on to learn more about Jupiter’s role in this expansive year in the Hope Springs section.

Luck filled new and full moon

The 2015 New Year begins with an almost full moon and that fullness gets everyone stepping into action – at first. Then a new moon in Capricorn January 20, 2015 quiets things down a bit and gives everyone a chance to breath, reflect, nourish and plan their year. (See New Moon in Capricorn to learn more about your theme for the month)

Then the moon waxes to full in Cancer by the beginning of February and is again basking in the glow of this luck giving, magnanimous and wisdom filled Jupiter. Jupiter infuses both the first new moon of the year and the February full moon with extra vigor and a call to action. The year is off to a bang.

Where are you meeting for dinner? Double check!

Keep in mind, we have Mercury retrogrades coloring the technology and communications issues that set a theme for you personally, for the year in January into February, and two other times this year too.

January 2015

January 1, 2015

Venus moves into alignment with Mercury and Jupiter, heralding a global focus on ways to improve the world through knowledge and the arts.

January 4, 2015

The full Moon in Gemini celebrates that the collective conscious and unconscious can learn from the past, if we are listening. (just one example is that on January 5, 2015 NASA released never before seen and the largest images of our Universe to date and details of the Andromeda galaxy – those images are from our past, get it?)

January 20, 2015

New Moon in Capricorn with Jupiter, Venus and Mercury aligned – lays a foundation for an evolution in global work and a revolution in social payment systems (Mars and Saturn exchanged in the second and eleventh houses from the new moon.)

January 1 – 22, 2015

Venus and Mercury are in Capricorn together which increases beauty, tendency to indulge (especially in work that helps people), creativity extraordinaire and a desire for luxury and reprieve (Saturn and Mars might now give it, you will have to schedule your relaxation in January and February).

January 21 – February 11, 2015

Mercury retrogrades in Capricorn from (with continuing influence through March 3, 2015.) The earth sign lights up a theme for each person, but since Jupiter is shining on that Mercury, we will all eventually be guided by reason and wisdom and solve our issue; probably by changing our point of view or listening better.

Handle the intensity, transform your life

January 22 – February 12, 2015

Venus and Mars dance together in Aquarius until just before Valentine’s Day. Making tension the grist for the wheels of passion in our romantic and creative lives. Handle it correctly and you can create a revolution in the world and alter the course of your romantic life.

February 2015

The new moon in Capricorn builds to a full moon in Cancer (February 2, 2015) with a series of planetary alignments

February 2, 2015

Full moon in Cancer with Jupiter continues to ask you to look inward for outer change. How are you going to help create familial harmony or in your chosen community and contribute to harmony at work? Plan family time together for the year, and focus on what creates connection. How can you all learn together or how you can show up for a good cause or fulfill civic duty, volunteer together and give back to your community, city or neighborhood?

February 19, 2015

Chinese New Year on February 19, 2015 gives pause for another celebration. But I have news for you: Vedic astrology says that it is still Year of the Horse until July 2015! Jupiter is still in Cancer until July 2015 according to the actual movements of Jupiter. The Chinese years are actually connected with seeing Jupiter change constellations.

hard work is worth it

Grist for the Mill

January and February also carry an advanced theme of Saturn and Mars “exchanging energy and influence”. That means you have some great opportunities to clear, detoxify, and push through health, productivity or routine issues IF you make a commitment and stick to it. The commitment can be small, so that you can build on it; even something as small as really stretching for 3 minutes each morning, or vigorously massaging your feet or sweeping your front step every morning can go miles to build upon self-esteem and discipline long term. Try it, you will like it. If you are already great at routine, try not to push things too much, but be present with each of your workouts, meditations or house cleaning.

Time is an ingredient

This combination can bring difficulties that turn lemons into lemonade. It is your choice. Just remember, that time can be an ingredient to success when we are building something slowly or shifting soil and rock in our lives; like the 2 Indian men who took 14 and 22 years to dig tunnels through mountains by hand respectively.

“Confront the difficult while it is still easy; accomplish the great task by a series of small acts.”
Tao Te Ching

new life

Hope springs

This New Year began with Jupiter in Cancer, which inspires hope, expansion (which can cause issues for some in the ways they spend), new paths to happiness and integrates positive psychology concepts into the mainstream this year.

Jupiter shines on the new moon in Capricorn on January 20, 2015. The constellations of Capricorn and Cancer are directly opposite each other, and when planets of good-will are present at pivotal times, like the new and full moons, this sets the tone for the month and for our expectations for the year.

Jupiter in Cancer inspires a global movement of Happiness.

This is why the positive psychology movement of the past 30 years is finally hitting the main stream. Jupiter is in the constellation of Cancer from June 2014 through July 2015. The principles of creating happiness and success have been known for thousands of years. Now, with Jupiter’s influence, positive psychology, the study of Flourishing and quantifying the ways humans experience happiness has revealed that there is a science to attain varying states of joy.

Cultivate a happier life this year – turn your goals on their head

You can change your happiness levels this year. Did you know that your happiness fuels success and familial harmony, not the other way around?

“Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we’ll be happy…this formula is actually backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.” Shawn Achor

Set your sights on “Cultivating Happiness” as a major focus this year, and you will reap the benefits.

And it just so happens that those happiness habits create effective weight loss, a healthier brain, a calmer demeanor, increased productivity, and a deep sense of connection and gratitude in life. Who doesn’t want that?

Commitment is the crux – and as I have mentioned above, that Mars and Saturn exchange is asking you dig deep and commit to some changes that may not seem fun, but will transform suffering into health, and vitality. So what is it going to be? Are you going to just take a pill or are you going to change the way you eat, wake up 15 minutes earlier or get that 7 minutes of exercise in your day or more ? No whining aloud.

The Happiness Habits (as I call them) happen to be the same sets of habits that ancient wisdom traditions have taught as spiritual health for thousands of years and now, positive psychology has tested societies around the world and found these same happiness habits fuel success, income and performance.

Lessons of the Zodiac

This is what the trip through the zodiac, year after year is meant to teach us, that we eventually learn the deeper lessons that each constellation illuminates within us.

The new moon of winter in the Northern hemisphere is quiet but burgeoning with possibility. Let the potential of your hopes and how you feel guide your true goal setting, not numbers and things you can annotate at the end of the year.

Vedic Astrology

Remember, Vedic Astrology uses a sidereal map of the skies and so you will see the new and full moons as listed in different zodiac signs that the Western astrology that is ubiquitous on the web and in most newspapers and magazines. The Vedic map is the same map astronomers use and is the same map that gives most people a different “Sun Sign”. The Vedic system gives more importance to your Moon sign and ascendant to interpret your karmas and your consciousness. This is also why it is sometimes considered a more accurate system, since the map is the same as viewed from the Earth.
