Do you have an obsession this year when it comes to makeup packaging?  I’ve got it for all things gold this year.  I’m loving the shiny luxe packaging that’s got me saying “I’m so fancy!” each time I pick it up.  I had that feeling when I saw the YSL Rouge Pur Couture mini set for holiday that sold out almost immediately online

at sephora.com so I was on the hunt for it in store.  Fortunately I was able to track it down after visiting a few Sephora stores last week and I came away somewhat triumphant!

You may have caught my “somewhat triumphant” phrase above because, well when you have this set in your hands it is pretty, it is shiny, and it has the YSL logo on the packaging, but…

the size is very, very small (see comparison photo below).  At 0.03 oz. / 12g each yes, I knew it would be tiny, but they are definitely like deluxe sample sizes.

still, they are gold.

Speaking of the packaging, if you are expecting the heavy luxe feeling of a typical YSL lip product, you won’t find that here.  The packaging doesn’t look cheap, but when you pick it up it is definitely lightweight with only the slightest hint of “weight” in it.  I really wish they were metal like their bigger sisters.

L to R: Le Fuchsia #19, Le Rouge #1, Le Nu #70, Le Orange #13

Still I love them.  I know, I’m crazy, but they are cute, gold and YSL.  They look pretty and I get to try out four different shades I wouldn’t have tried out individually.  I’m still chalking this up to a purchase for makeup on display though, because I really don’t want to be taking a mini like this in my handbag and losing it.

I mean that would be like throwing away $13.53 (Texas tax included).

Swatches

There’s no denying it – they swatch beautifully!  Swatched L to R: Le Rouge #1, Le Orange #13, Le Fuchsia #19, Le Nu #70

I still plan on reviewing the formula of the YSL Rouge Pur Couture and I’ll do lip swatches in a makeup post up next so you can see how the colors look and how they perform.  Fortunately all of the shades in this set come as full sizes so even if you can’t get your hands on this set it may help you decide on a full size purchase.

Overall I can’t say I’m thrilled with the purchase for myself, however this would be a good set for a gift.  I know the price is high, but if you know someone would love to try the Rouge Pur Couture and you don’t know which shade they would like then this is a good option.  Bottom line, if you didn’t pick this up and can’t find it in store you don’t need to be too sad if you were wanting this for yourself.  I still plan on gifting one of the sets I picked up because I think you would still love to receive this (hey, free is always good, right?!).  Be sure to stay tuned for more details!

What do you think of these YSL Rouge Pur Couture minis?  Did you pick them up?  Would you like them as a gift?
