Zone A of Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Council on Tuesday appointed 13 coordinators for the games of the 2017 NUGA Preliminaries to be hosted by Federal University Dutse (FUD).

Newsmen report that the coordinators were selected and appointed during a meeting with the council members and officials of the university.

Those appointed are Prof. Rabi’u Mohammed, the Director Sports, Bayero University Kano (BUK), for football and Dr Sambo Banake of FUD as basketball coordinator.

Dr Danlami of Federal University Lafiya was appointed volleyball coordinator, Dr Muhammad Lapai as badminton coordinator and Sa’idu Bala of Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna as lawn tennis coordinator.

Others are Dr Musa Dogo of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria as athletics coordinator, and Danladi Garba of Jigawa Sports Council as taekwondo coordinator.

Also, Mr Umar of Jigawa Sports Council was appointed judo coordinator, Israel Bulus of Nassarawa State University as chess coordinator and Dr L.Y. Bello of FUT Minna as squash coordinator.

At the meeting, the officials agreed that coordinators for handball, table tennis and swimming would be sourced from Kano State Sports Commission before the commencement of the exercise.

Newsmen report that 19 universities from the zone would compete for tickets to the NUGA Games at the preliminaries billed to take place from April 2 to April 8.
