The CMLTO exists so that, in Ontario, the public’s right to quality medical laboratory services is protected by providing self-regulation and leadership to the practice of medical laboratory technologists. Further, the CMLTO exists to ensure such services are provided by ethical and competent practitioners to maximize health outcomes. Medical laboratory technologists conduct medical laboratory tests, experiments and analyses to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.Pathologists’ assistants assist in autopsies and examinations of specimens or perform autopsies under a pathologist’s supervision.

Clinical Chemistry – Measuring the chemical components of blood and body fluids including
hormones and drugs.
Clinical Microbiology – Studying bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites which invade the body.
Diagnostic Cytology – Studying cells for the detection of cancer. Genetics: Studying chromosomes,
DNA and RNA from cells of body fluids and tissues to diagnose genetic diseases.
