For 85 years, Brookgreen Gardens has been offering a combination of beautiful gardens, fine art, education, and fun to locals, tourists and travelers of all ages. This must-see Myrtle Beach area attraction was named one of the Top 10 Gardens in the US by TripAdvisor, and consists of a wildlife preserve, sculpture garden, butterfly house, pontoon boat rides, a zoo, and so much more.

In celebration of the 85th Anniversary of Brookgreen Gardens, there is a new exhibit featuring 12 larger-than-life Lego brick sculpture installations made from almost 400,000 Lego bricks, including a giant tortoise, a 6-foot tall humming bird, a 7-foot tall dragonfly, a family of deer, and others. “Nature Connects” is an award-winning exhibit currently touring the country, created by Sean Kenney, renowned artist and children’s author. His work with Legos has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, BBC news, ELLE, and Good Morning America.

The exhibit can be seen daily in the Native Wildlife Zoo from March 5 to September 5, and is included in the regular garden admission price. Each sculpture features panels with an educational message that promotes conservation, and there will be creative activities such as a Lego sculpture building contest, scavenger hunts, and 30,000 Lego bricks available for guests to play and build with during their visit.

Within the gorgeous gardens you will also find the largest and most comprehensive collection of American figurative sculpture in the country. There are over 1,400 pieces by 350 artists, who worked from the early nineteenth century to the present. Stroll through colorful summer blooms and southern magnolia trees, and take it the beauty of nature at its finest. Then visit alligators, river otters, white-tailed deer, foxes, owls, hawks, bald eagles, herons, egrets, and other native wildlife at the zoo and Cypress Aviary.

Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and nonprofit organization located just south of the Myrtle Beach area on U.S. 17, between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island. It is open to the public daily and well worth the trip. Regular admission tickets are good for seven consecutive days and include admission to the gardens, Native Wildlife Zoo, the Lowcountry Center and Trail, and the Enchanted Storybook Forest, a wonderful play area for children. Visit their website for more information and to purchase tickets. All of your purchases help support Brookgreen Gardens, a non-profit whose mission is to display figurative sculpture by American artists and to preserve regional plants, animals, and history.
