This tutorial will show you how a Moderator in an Online Rooms meeting can provide [Closed Captioning Input] permission for a Participant attending the meeting. This tutorial will also show the closed captioning provider how to access the [Closed Captioning Input] window. A second tutorial (found here: http://uwmltc.org/?p=12328) will show a Participant in an Online Rooms meeting how to view Closed Captioning.

Before you begin:

The Instructor in the D2L course site must create an Online Room meeting. Here is a tutorial with instructions for setting up an Online Room: http://uwmltc.org/?p=850

If an outside closed captioning provider will be captioning the session, you’ll need to add this user to your D2L course site. Here is a tutorial on this rocess: http://uwmltc.org/?p=876 Note: It is best to add the closed captioning provider to your course as a one of two “Guest” roles.  Adding closed captioning provider as “Guest” will provide viewing access to Content and this user can be enrolled in an Online Room.  Adding closed captioning provider as “Guest Instructor” will allow the user to be enrolled in an Online Room and post to Discussion forums.  This user also has viewing access that is similar to a generic student to Content, Quizzes, Dropbox, and Grades.  However, the user cannot modify or add content in any of these tools or view specific student’s work or grades.

Once the Online Room meeting is setup and the closed captioning provider is added to the course site, the Instructor will need to add users to the Online Room meeting. Both students and the closed caption provider should be added as Participants. The tutorial (above) for setting up an Online Room can provide further instructions on this process.

You may consider printing this tutorial and referencing it as you work. A printable PDF version of this tutorial can be found here: https://db.tt/dPXmp3iU
