Week 7 Waiver Wire Fantasy Football by Utter-Fantasy Football Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles

Rather than Week 6 be a week of disappointing injuries, thankfully, it was a week of unlikely stars rising from the depths of NFL depth charts. Another nice week to look back at the NFL games and talk about who stood out with some spectacular plays, rather than who got injured.

Since we did not have a ton of new significant injuries, it’s the Bye weeks that can also create many roster problems for fantasy football owners, especially if they did not pay attention to them during the drafts. You may have players from their team off on the same bye week.

Bye Week 7: Carolina and Dallas

Week 7 Waiver Wire Fantasy Football Quarterbacks

TENN QB Marcus Mariota ( at IND)-  It’s not a secret that Indianapolis has one of the worst defenses in the NFL, and perhaps THE worst secondary. Even QB Brock Osweiler eventually had a good game vs the Colts in Week 6, and Mariota will in Week 7. If you are without QB Cam Newton in Week 7, Mariota should be serviceable. Only owned in 60% of Yahoo leagues

WASH QB Kirk Cousins ( at DET )- Another defense that made a quarterback looked great in Week 6 was the Detroit Lions. LAR QB Case Keenum had 321 passing yards and 3 TDs. Cousins is only owned in 72% of Yahoo leagues, with a favorable match up.

deeper leagues BUFF QB Tyrod Taylor ( at MIA )

Also consider KC QB Alex Smith (vs New Orleans) Week 7 in deeper leagues

Week 7 Waiver Wire Fantasy Football Running Backs

NE RB James White ( at PITT)- Recommendation Week 6 Waiver Wire- QB Tom Brady likes having RB James White on the field with him, and what Brady wants, Brady gets. White had 66 total yards and 2 receiving TDs in Week 6.

MIA RB Jay Ajayi ( vs BUFF)- Recommendation Week 6 Waiver Wire-  RB Ajayi racked up over 200+ rushing yards and 2 TDs. He was the top running back for Week 6. Tougher match up in week 7, but at least he’s at home again.

DEN RB Devontae Booker ( vs HOU)- Only a stash right now, but eventually Booker’s talent will be too much for HC Kubiak to ignore. Booker had 46 yards in Week 6 on only 5 carries ( 9.2 average) while RB CJ Anderson had 37 yards on 10 carries ( 3.7 average)

Week 7 Waiver Wire Fantasy Football Wide Receivers

CHI WR Cameron Meredith ( at GB)-  Recommendation Week 6 Waiver Wire- An Utter-Fantasy recommendation last week, but since he is still only owned in 52% of Yahoo leagues, fantasy football owners needed Week 6 to become believers….11 catches for 113 yards. He was also targeted in the end zone.

NO WR Michael Thomas ( at KC)- Fantasy football owners were justifiably nervous about starting WR Michael Thomas with WR Willie Snead returning from injury, but Thomas easily was preferred over Snead by QB D Brees. Thomas should be acquired in all formats. Only owned in 67% of Yahoo leagues.

CINN WR Tyler Boyd ( vs CLEV)- I wouldn’t blame fantasy football owners for watching another week or two to see if Week 6 was a fluke ( 4 catches for 79 yards) but QB A Dalton has got to get this speedy receiver involved in their offense, as well as LaFell.

after their Week 7 Bye-DAL WR Cole Beasley- There’s no denying that QB Dak Prescott likes Cole “Danny Woodhead” Beasley.

MINN WR Adam Thielen ( at PHIL )- WR Stefon Diggs (groin) did not practice Monday, but Diggs is expected back this week. Remember however, that 6’2″ Thielen was the QB Sam Bradford favorite in Week 5, with 7/8 targets for 127 yards and 1 TD.

Other candidates- WASH WR Jamison Crowder ( at DET)- 3/4 targets for 52 yards in Week 6 and 1 TD.

Week 7 Waiver Wire Fantasy Football Tight Ends

SD  TE Hunter Henry ( at ATL)- Recommendation Week 6 Waiver Wire-  but still only owned in 35% of Yahoo leagues. Currently the #3 tight end in the NFL, and has 16 targets, 218 receiving yards and 3 TDs in the past 3 weeks.

IND TE Jack Doyle ( at TENN )- I picked up WR P Dorsett in a couple leagues in Week 6, and QB A Luck wouldn’t even look at him. Dorsett had only two lousy catches for 12 yards, and now he’s injured along with TE D Allen. This can only mean even more targets for Doyle. Only owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues.
