High school or equivalent and one year of laboratory animal experience.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide for the skilled care of laboratory animals in a humane, safe and sanitary manner using appropriate equipment and established procedures.
Salary Range
The salary range is from $24,400 to $30,500 annually.
This is a band code: CS12
Specific Job Related Duties
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**
* Feeds and waters animals as specified.
* Performs daily census of animals.
* Changes animal caging as scheduled sanitizes rooms, equipment and hallways as assigned.
* Assists in the maintenance of animal records.
* Observes animals for behavior change and/or evidence of disease and notifies staff as appropriate.
* Provides routine treatment for common disease problems and performs animal identification tasks using established methods.
* Assists in the operation of and the record keeping for breeding colonies.
* Attends in-house training programs to become more knowledgeable in the field of laboratory animal science.
* Adheres to internal controls established for department.
**WORKING ENVIRONMENT:**
* Standard animal resources environment. Must not be allergic to animal dander, or have immunodeficiency diseases. Pregnancy may become a personnel safety factor in some laboratory animal science duties. Potential exposure to radiation and biohazards.
