About the Agency
It is anticipated that there will be significant interest in the announcement. This position is located within the Protection Department at the Philadelphia, PA United States Mint facility. The Protection Department safeguards the United States’ assets and artifacts including the nation’s gold supply, as well as its other precious metal reserves; protects United States Mint employees, visitors, equipment, facilities and other resources (including information); provides expert security advice and counsel to the United States Mint, other government agencies and foreign governments; and enforces Federal, State and local Laws.

The following are the duties of this position at the TR-08. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
• Enforce all Federal, State, local laws as well as Treasury and United States Mint rules and regulations for the protection of persons, property, and facilities.
• Protect dies, monetary, and bullion assets in the custody or control of the United States Mint during production, processing, storage, transportation, or other use; protect all facility space and property against theft, assault, sabotage; and protect United States Mint employees and visitors from threats or hazards of physical harm or injury, violence in the workplace, criminal acts such as assault or robbery, and acts of terrorism.
• Assist in the physical search of all exiting individuals, and detain, question, and/or arrest any person attempting to remove assets from the United States Mint.
• Apprehend, detain, and/or arrest persons considered extremely violent, mentally disturbed or intoxicated, and risk the ever present dangers of breaking and entering, trespassing occurrences on Federal property, armed robbery confrontations, and the protection of Federal officials and respective employees.
• Perform patrol duties as deterrence to crime and other violations of laws, rules, and regulations; Control entry and exit, regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic; prevent accidents, congestion, and parking problems; give warnings; may issue citations for traffic and other appropriate violations; and make arrests if necessary.
• Receive and record messages and instructions involving emergencies, complaints, violations, accidents, and requests for information and assistance; Transmit messages and instructions to officers on patrol, and dispatch officers to investigate and answer general inquiries; Maintain records and prepare reports covering activities and events occurring over the course of a shift.

You must meet the following requirements within 14 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Physical Requirements: You must be able to wear clothing and gear weighing no more than a total of 30 pounds.
Specialized experience: For the TR-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
Education: For the TR-06 level: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
NOTE: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience.

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Rating: Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures and practices to include arrest authority; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and ability to perform a wide range of police operations in preventing or resolving offenses, or in conducting preliminary investigations of incidents ranging from simple rule violations to more complex crimes. Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, superior, good, and acceptable, depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

-Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, two-shift basis. Shifts are Compressed Work Schedule (CWS) of four 10 hour days. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work both shifts on a rotational basis.
- Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include equipment belt, bulletproof vest, riot gear, etc.
- Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Pass a pre-employment psychological evaluation.
- Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
- Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside.
- Complete or have previously completed training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
