NCIS Special Agents serve wherever U.S. Navy and Marine Corps active duty members and Department of the Navy civilians are serving in defense of our nation. Salary will be determined based on the location of the position.  Special Agents receive 25% Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) which is added to their base salary and locality pay. The positions in this vacancy announcement will be filled no later than 21 Sep 15.  Applicants who successfully complete the process need to anticipate receiving final offers circa 22Aug15 and be prepared to report to their office of assignment by 20 Sep 15.

Please note that several aspects of the special agent application process require applicants to be appear in-person; however, there is no practical means of making advance determinations regarding dates. Therefore, applicants need to plan on being available for 4 to 5 separate events during the period of 18 May 15-07 Aug 15.

Specifically, in order to be considered for this vacancy announcement, applicants must be available during below listed time-frames so that all required steps can be completed:

2. Pre-employment polygraph examinations during the period of 19 May15-31 Jul 15;

During the course of their careers, Special Agents carry out assignments in both investigations and protection, and need to expect to be assigned to multiple duty stations throughout the U.S. and abroad during the course of a career.  The following are the primary duties of this position at the full performance level:

Conduct reactive criminal investigations of alleged violations of Federal laws and regulations related to crimes such as arson, sexual assault, child abuse, bribery, fraud, murder, larceny, burglary, narcotic violations, espionage, and terrorism.

Conduct proactive operations designed to reduce criminal activity utilizing special techniques designed to protect Department of the Navy (DON) military members and their families, civilian employees, resources, and assets.

Process crime scenes, seize evidence and maintain it under a chain of custody.

Interview witnesses and victims, and interrogate suspects.

Apprehend and arrest persons.

Employ specialized investigative techniques such as surveillance, oral & wire intercepts, and forensic analysis.

Formulate investigative plans, identify initial logical leads, continue to develop and pursue additional logical leads and ultimately complete all logical leads in order to resolve criminal investigations.

Document investigative work through written reports of investigation, and statements.

Prepare and present sworn affidavits and warrants.

Use various law enforcement databases and resources to develop leads and corroborate information.

Conduct liaison with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies in order to facilitate exchanges of information.

Testify as a government witness in court settings in criminal cases, and at administrative hearings in non-criminal cases.

Develop and maintain relationships with foreign law enforcement agencies in order to enhance the safety of deployed DON assets.

Utilize multi-disciplinary resources, both internal and external to NCIS and leverage capabilities offered by cyber, intelligence analysis, technical investigative tools, general criminal investigations, and combating terrorism.

Provide crime prevention and counterintelligence awareness briefings to various audiences.

Medical Requirements . The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Possess visual acuity or corrected to no worse than 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other eye.  Color vision is required.  Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters.  Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical, emotional, or mental condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

This position requires access to firearms or ammunition. The Federal government is prohibited from employing individuals in such position who have ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, or a felony crime of domestic violence adjudged on or after 27 November 2002.
