Each week we feature a different local, sharing their unique experiences on what makes NYC the best place, ever.  Hey, we never said New Yorkers weren’t cocky.

This week we’re delighted to be chatting with writer and homeschool mom extraordinaire, Rachel Figueroa-Levin!

Name: Rachel Figueroa-Levin

Occupation: Writer, Homeschooling Mom, Babywearing Evangelist, and Soapmaker.

New Yorker since: I emerged from my mother’s cervix and into a hospital on Staten Island.

What hood do you live in? Inwood

Where do you get your morning coffee? Dichters Pharmacy/Soda Shoppe. It’s a throwback to the old timey lunch counter soda fountain places.

Restaurant you’d be really, really sad bordering on clinically depressed if they closed: Land & Sea Diner in The Bronx and Vegetarian Dim Sum House in Chinatown. Without those two places I would starve to death.

Every tourist must visit: Coney Island

NYC trend you’re currently loving/hating: I don’t understand the appeal of cronuts.

Favorite way to while away a (non-workday!) NYC afternoon: Trying a new restaurant and obsessively writing about and instagraming my food.

NYC’s best kept secret: The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art on Staten Island.

To connect with this awesome New Yorker, visit her on Twitter, here, here, and here.
