^ kpmg just released a pretty interesting report out on international total tax costs for major countries and cities across the globe and not surprisingly things are pretty complex. While Canada cleans up, the US and its cities can be pretty competitive. Interestingly, Texas cities are not at the low end of total tax rates and the most competitive major cities cited in the US were Cincy, Cleveland, Atlanta, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. San Fran and NYC unsurprisingly were at the high end.

Saint Louis City fared well for corporate services taxation but was on the high end for manufacturing (I believe due to property taxes) and this sector skewed the overall ranking to a less competitive level. The report also noted though that Saint Louis was among the lowest in overall cost of doing business among US cities.
