The winners of the prestigious 11th annual European Urban Music Awards sponsored by Zuricom were announced on Friday (22/11/13) at the prestigious event held in London . The event hosted by Jordan Kensington and Cleopatra Woods saw a glittering list of celebrities from the world of music, television, comedy, and sports on hand to present a host of categories. BBC Casualty actress, Gemma Aitkinson led the pack of celebrities which included Danny John Jules (Red Dwarf) , Heather Smalls, Amelia Lily , Celena Henry (The Honeyz) , Kingsland Rd, Bobby Davro, and many more.
Big winners of the night included; Fuse ODG who as well as performing grabbed a record x4 awards on the night. He bagged the Artist of the Year, Best Music Video for ‘Antenna’ featuring ‘Wyclef’ , Best Single, and Best Collaboration.
Fuse ODG commented “The Urban Music Awards are legendary for supporting artist when no one else cares. This is a proud moment for me on this stage as the UMA’s supported me last year with Azonto making it such a popular hit and to come back after such chart success this year is unbelievable”.
Each year, thousands of avid music fans decide the nominees for each of the 21 categories in the event, and it is these fans who decide the winners for Urban Music Awards ceremony. Over 1.9 million music fans voted on the official UMA website following the announcement of the nominees a few weeks ago.
British born singer- songwriter Laura Mvulawho was nominated in three categories Best Newcomer, Best Female Act and Artist of The Year also picked up the award for Best Female Act . She commented “I want to thank all my fans for voting for me and special thanks to the Urban Music Awards for all your support”. Other notable winners of the night included ; Charlie Sloth for Best Radio Show , Bruno Mars who won Best International Artist, Ghetts who won the deservedly Best Male Artist 2013 and Jahmene Douglas who picked up the Best Newcomer gong.
In the heavily contested Radio Station category. UK’s leading dance and urban station , Kiss was voted Best Radio Station 2013 whilst chart topping producer , Naughty Boy picked up the ‘Best Producer’ award for his ‘Hotel Cabana’ album which features Emeli Sande, Sam Smith amongst many other established musicians, singers and songwriters.
The 11th annual Urban Music Awards also launched the #ProjectPhilippines2013 campaign which will help raise awareness and funds to support the devasting wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
It was a fantastic line up of performances. The grand opening was by the beat boxing , all singing, forward sounding group , The Boxettes followed by a series of fantastic performances from Ray Foxx featuring Rachel K Collier performing the Dance hit ‘Boom, Boom, Boom’ to Grime/UK HipHop pioneer Ghetts gracing the stage with his full live band in an awards show exclusive performing track . Award winning Soul Singer Debra Debs back from a world tour that saw her perform to audiences of over 45,000 in 7 countries graced the UMA stage to deliver one of the most show stopping performances of the night. Singer/Songwriter, Zeo also took the stage with a remarkable performance. The UMA’s also saw Afrobeat take center stage with unmissable performances from star of the night , Fuse ODG , Atumpan performing ‘The Thing’ and the grand closing performance by one of the world’s biggest Afrobeat dance group at present, the Unique Silver Dancers.
The hosts (Jordan & Cleopatra) connected the dots with great chemistry and loads of funny moments that only added to the great energy. All in all a very successful night all around.

The Urban Music Awards signed a three year deal with British tablet and smart phone manufacturer, Zuricom. The successful Z-Phone by Zuricom designed by Jordan Kensington was also marketed via the 11th annual Urban Music Awards.
