The village of Millbrook in eastern Dutchess County has a strong grasp on the creative arts. Galleries like Belvoir, Renaissance Art & Collectibles, and Wall and Rah are located right in the middle of town next to the other restaurants, antique shops (lots of antiquing in Millbrook), and the farmers market. The Millbrook Arts Group also hosts music and live performance. In short, Millbrook sounds like a weekend destination to us.
Did you visit yet? Did you love it? Want to move there without dropping a half-mill? Located just south of town is this smart, airy c.1900 cottage that is reasonably priced. Includes nearly 2000 square feet, three beds, 1.5 baths, lots of rustic features like wood beams, planks floors, and, stonework. The dining room is our favorite room, thanks to vaulted ceilings and French doors that open onto the patio, which sits right next to the footbridge over the stream on the property. In short, sounds delightful. Even more delightful are the taxes, which are never delightful, but $3300/year isn’t too painful.
Situated less than 2 hours from NYC via the Taconic Parkway, five minutes from the front door.
