Field Director

Based in Harrisburg, PA

The SEIU Pennsylvania State Council is seeking a Field Director to plan and supervise a multifaceted statewide field campaign heading into a major election year. This position will be responsible for developing and overseeing all aspects of the State Council’s paid and volunteer field programs, from targeting to data management to the hiring and supervision of member political organizers. An ideal candidate will not only bring electoral field experience to the table, but will demonstrate creativity in issue organizing and engaging union members on a wide range of campaigns. This position will also work in tandem with the State Council’s Executive Director and Legislative Director on a range of political tasks, including but not limited to overseeing the State Council’s member-based endorsement process.

Duties:

Develop the strategy and oversee the execution of the SEIU State Council paid and volunteer canvass programs for all levels of electoral campaigns, ranging from state legislative races to the presidential campaign.

Oversee the State Council’s issue campaigns, developing new and innovative ways for SEIU members to engage in our issue-based work, including state budget fights, the Fight for $15 movement, and other organizational priorities.

Determine how each of SEIU’s campaigns help better connect us to our members and the general public, ensuring that each campaign has an eye toward base building and long term sustainability.

Serve as the supervisor for the SEIU Member Political Organizers, with hiring, termination, training and disciplinary responsibilities.

Serve as the primary SEIU liaison for core partner organizations who engage in electoral field campaigns. Make recommendations to the State Council staff on which partner programs warrant SEIU investment.

Oversee all SEIU member training programs. Develop strategies to grow member leaders who can take a leading role in SEIU campaigns.

Work in tandem with candidates and campaigns to provide guidance on effective field strategies.

Handle the logistics of the SEIU State Council endorsement process, including, but not limited to, the distribution of questionnaires, coordination of the regional endorsement committees, and facilitation of final endorsement decisions by the State Council board.

Develop core strategy on how to expand SEIU/Progressive capacity in priority geographies, including SE PA, SW PA, NEPA, and Erie.

Oversee the State Council’s member to member mail and direct contact efforts.

Experience:

Two cycles of electoral experience in a management level field position or four years’ experience labor/progressive issue organizing.

Labor background preferred but not required

Salary:

The position offers a competitive salary and benefit package. Specific salary will be commensurate with experience.

Location:

Preferably Harrisburg based, open to other geographic bases in Pennsylvania under the right circumstances. Extensive work in the field and travel is required.
