The Sonora girls were clearly upset after losing to Weston Ranch Wednesday in each team’s Valley Oak League opener.

The Wildcats stood toe-to-toe with one of the league’s best, had them on the run in the second half, but couldn’t hold off the Cougars and lost 75-65 at Bud Castle Gym.

“We worked hard and lost to a good team,” said Sonora head coach Amy Santos. “I told the girls, ‘Don’t hang your heads. We played hard and lost to a good team. You gotta learn from this and move on.’ I’m very proud of their effort and preparation coming into this game. We hung with them and we were right there. This is the VOL. Every game is gonna be a dogfight. We’re gonna earn everything we get.”
