CANDID: You're playing it straight, which of course is much better.

CANDY_HEELS: How can it be much better when I myself have not found this mystical/religious experience

The search for mystical experience is stopped in its tracks when someone discovers coke, weed or alcohol gives them a high. You haven't stopped searching, so you have a much better chance of finding what you're looking for than someone who's substituted a chemical high for the Real Deal.

quote:
... which is another way of saying playing it safe, which is another way of saying not taking risks which is boring, so I have a boring experience.

Did you know the most predictable people on the planet are the avatars and mystics? They get up at the same time every day, eat precisely the same breakfast, meditate for the same amount of time. That's because these mundane things aren't worth too much thought, they're just maintenance. A truly rich experience of life doesn't get caught up in petty detail.

Conversely, the common man (and woman) actively looks for a roller-coaster of experience. We all know people who make a scene because the meal they're served in a restaurant "isn't good enough", need constant variety or they get bored, thrive on gossip and drama and enmity. They exhaust themselves and everyone around them.

Any one of us can choose turbulence or peace. I see you holding on through an uncomfortable blahness when you could so easily be causing havoc. Being able to sit with the discomfort shows great strength. I'm glad to know you have an interest in meditation, because that will never steer you wrong.

You can accomplish so much more from an ocean of serenity than while being tossed about by the tempest of ego. What's more, you'll know exactly what you need to do, all the time.

If you need inspiration, get your hands on Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, published by Self-Realization Fellowship. It's a classic that's never gone out of print, so your library can order it for you or you can take a trip to Watkins in town and get your own copy.
