Hello from northeast china.

How very interesting!!! What's it like growing orchids in China? I've been dipping into an American Orchid forum recently and the way they grow their plants (granite chips as medium, lots of people growing tropical orchids outdoors etc) is quite different from the UK, I bet China's orchid-growing habits are different again!

Welcome to the forum, I look forward to your insights!

Kind Regards

Dave, much of what I have seen in the near eight years in China, is economic based. There is a large market for orchids in China. But many orchid farmers and enthusiast are limited in cultivation knowledge.
Raw sunflower seed shells and peanut shells mixed with small rocks are used, and a terrestrial commercial mix consisting of dirt, sand, rock, leaf, stick.
I am in the northeast about an eight hour train ride from the Russian and North Korean border; the air can be very dry 30 – 45 percent in summer and 5 percent in winter.
But we don’t let that stop us from growing epiphytes, even our Vanilla grows reasonably well just have to supply some moisture to the air.
