Uckfield Community Technology College put on a dance show in memory of sixth form student Melissa Newell who sadly died suddenly and tragically during December.

Uckfield Community Technology College proudly hosted a thrilling Dance Show on Thursday 9th and Friday the 10th March. Over 80 fabulously talented dance students put on an exceptional performance across two evenings; stunning audiences with beautifully choreographed performances.

The show was organsied almost exclusively by UCTC sixth form students in memory of their wonderful friend Melissa Newell, who sadly passed away in December 2016. Melissa is missed very much by everyone at UCTC and her friends wanted to celebrate her life and raise money to support the invaluable work of the local Charity ‘You Raise Me Up’. The charity offers emotional and financial support to families who have lost a young adult between the ages of 16 & 25.

The UCTC dancers aged between 11 and 19 performed a dazzling mix of solos, duets and group dance routines; featuring some gorgeously sophisticated sequences. The meticulous routines were mixed beautifully with passionate and powerful GCSE and A level exam performance pieces, whilst key stage 3 students showed off their impressive creativity, precision and timing. It was a vibrant, energetic and emotionally apt way to celebrate the life of Melissa and early indications are that the Dance Show has raised more than £100o for You Raise me Up!
