BQ's new Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition - the smartphone that puts content and services at your fingertips

Canonical announces that the world's first Ubuntu phone will be available across Europe from BQ.com through a series of Flash Sales over the coming weeks. They advise that the dates and times of the sales will be announced, the carriers which will offer SIM bundles for buyers of the phone, and emphasize the use of scopes as a new way to "rapidly and visually access the most important digital life services - music, social, web, local services, photos etc - directly on the home screen."

Canonical announces the addition of hSenid Mobile, a multi-national Telco Software Solutions provider, to the growing Charm Partner Programme. Artur Tyloch, Global Telco Program Lead at Canonical says, "hSenid have already demonstrated their commitment to Juju with the creation of their CTAP charm. We're excited to continue working with them to add more valuable telco solutions to the charm portfolio."

Rolling release vs. fixed release Linux

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols of ZDNet discusses the implementation of the rolling release model used by distributions such as Arch Linux as opposed to the fixed release model used by Ubuntu. He concludes that rolling releases should only be deployed by experts but for everyone else, the extra stability of fixed-release distributions makes them the better choice.

Ubuntu vs. Fedora vs. openSUSE With An Intel Broadwell Ultrabook

Michael Larabel of Phoronix shares the benchmark results of tests between openSUSE Tumbleweed, Fedora 21, and Ubuntu 14.10/15.04 that were made on an IBM Thinkpad X1 Carbon. He says of the tests: "While the package versions aren't too different between the three distinct operating systems, the testing was done with the OS defaults." At the end of the article he links to a OpenBenchmarking.org test results file that contains full details.

First Ever Ubuntu Phone Unboxing Video Appears Online

Joey-Elijah Sneddon of OMG! Ubuntu! tells us that we can expect to see a number of "unboxing videos" for the Bq Ubuntu phone to appear on line in the coming days. Embedded in Joey's post is the first such video to appear which was made by YouTuber Jordan Keyes.
